FTC-Compliant Disclosure

We’re an affiliate site.
Here’s exactly what that means.

We believe in total transparency. This page explains every affiliate relationship we have, how it works, what it earns us, and — most importantly — how it does and doesn’t influence our editorial decisions.

1 What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a way for websites to earn a small commission by linking to products on retail platforms. When you click a specially tagged link on PedalPickr.com and subsequently make a qualifying purchase from the retailer, we receive a percentage of the sale value — at no additional cost to you whatsoever.

Think of it as a referral fee: the retailer pays us a small thank-you for sending a paying customer their way. You pay the same price you’d pay if you went directly to the retailer’s website.

Plain English version: If you read our review of a bike chain, click our Amazon link, and buy it — Amazon pays us roughly 3% of the sale. You still pay the same Amazon price you’d pay if you searched yourself. We get a small cut. Amazon still gets the lion’s share.

Affiliate marketing is the primary way independent publishing sites like PedalPickr.com sustain themselves without charging readers, running pop-up ads, or selling subscription fees. It lets us keep the site completely free to access.

2 How it works on this site

Here is the step-by-step process, so there is no mystery:

1

You read our content

A buying guide, product review, or comparison article — all written independently by [FOUNDER_NAME].

2

You click a product link

Links marked with a small note like “Buy on Amazon” or “Check price” are affiliate links.

3

A cookie is placed

The retailer sets a tracking cookie in your browser, recording that you came from PedalPickr.com.

4

You make a purchase

If you buy a qualifying product within the cookie window, the retailer attributes the sale to us.

5

We earn a commission

The retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale — typically 3–8% depending on the programme.

6

You pay nothing extra

Your price is identical to what you’d pay going directly to the retailer. Zero surcharge, always.

Cookie windows vary by programme. Amazon’s cookie lasts 24 hours from your click (or until you purchase or close your browser). If you add an item to your cart, the window extends to 90 days for that cart item. Other programmes use 7–30 day windows. If you click our link but don’t purchase within that window, we earn nothing even if you buy later.

3 Our affiliate partners

The following affiliate programmes are active on PedalPickr.com as of our last review date. Commission rates shown are the typical rates for cycling and sports categories — exact rates vary by product type and may change without notice.

Programme / Retailer What they sell Typical commission Cookie window
Amazon Associates Virtually all bike parts, tools, accessories, e-bike components 3% (Sports & Outdoors) 24 hours
REI Affiliate Programme Bikes, components, apparel, outdoor gear 5% 15 days
Backcountry High-end cycling components, apparel, gear 4–12% 30 days
Performance Bicycle Road and mountain bike components, tools 5% 30 days
Trek Bicycle Trek bikes, accessories, components 5% 15 days
Rad Power Bikes Electric bicycles and accessories Varies 30 days

We may add new affiliate programmes as the site grows. This table is reviewed and updated whenever a new partnership is added or an existing one changes materially. If you notice a retailer we link to that is not listed here, please let us know at [CONTACT_EMAIL] and we will update this page promptly.

Note on Google AdSense: PedalPickr.com also displays contextual advertising via Google AdSense. These are display ads — not affiliate links — and operate under a separate, pay-per-impression or pay-per-click model. AdSense ads are clearly marked as advertisements and do not influence our editorial content. See our Privacy Policy for details on AdSense cookies.

4 Does affiliate income influence our reviews?

No. Here is exactly why, and how we ensure it.

The most important question anyone can ask about an affiliate site is whether the financial incentive warps the editorial output. We take this seriously enough to describe our safeguards in plain terms:

  • Affiliate links are added after editorial decisions are made — never before. We research, test, compare, and write our conclusion first. Then, and only then, do we add affiliate links to the products we’ve recommended. The commission never enters the analysis.
  • We recommend against products even when affiliate links exist. If a product scores poorly in our research — wrong value, poor reliability, better alternatives available — we say so regardless of whether we could earn a commission from it. We have passed on significant commission opportunities in order to steer readers away from inferior products.
  • We link to the best product for the reader, not the highest commission. Amazon’s 3% commission on a $300 component is $9. Backcountry’s 12% on the same item is $36. We choose the recommendation that best serves our readers, and link to the best-priced or most accessible source — not the one that earns us the most.
  • No brand pays for a positive review or a top ranking. We do not accept payment, free products, or any form of compensation in exchange for positive editorial coverage. Brands that send unsolicited products for review are told in advance that we will publish an honest assessment regardless of the outcome.
  • Our long-term interest is in reader trust, not short-term commission. If we consistently recommend poor products, readers stop trusting us. A site without reader trust earns nothing. Our business model only works if our recommendations are genuinely good.

5 How we choose what to recommend

Every recommendation on PedalPickr.com is the result of the same process:

  1. Identify the real question. We start from what riders actually need — often from reader emails, forum questions, or our own experience — not from what pays the most commission.
  2. Research the market deeply. We review manufacturer specifications, independent test data, long-term ownership reports from verified buyers, and professional reviews from trusted cycling publications.
  3. Evaluate on defined criteria. For each category, we define what matters most (weight, compatibility, durability, value, ease of installation, etc.) and score options against those criteria.
  4. Write a clear verdict. We name a winner, explain why, note who the runner-up is suitable for, and flag products that look good on paper but have known issues.
  5. Add links last. Only after the editorial is finalised do we add product links. We link to wherever the product is available at the best price for the reader.
  6. Review and update. Product lines change, prices shift, better options arrive. We revisit published content at least annually and update both the editorial and the links.

6 What you pay — and what you don’t

Using our affiliate links costs you nothing. The commission we earn comes from the retailer’s margin — not from a surcharge added to your order.

In fact, clicking our links can sometimes save you money: we regularly highlight active discount codes, seasonal sales, and better-priced alternatives to the most widely promoted options. We flag price drops when we become aware of them, and our buying guides include budget tiers precisely because not every rider needs to spend at the top of the market.

If you find a lower price elsewhere, please don’t feel obligated to use our link. We’d rather you get the best deal. If you let us know where you found it, we’ll update our article to reflect it — that’s more valuable to us than one extra commission.

7 Your rights as a reader

Full transparency

You have the right to know about every affiliate relationship on this site. This page exists precisely to provide that.

No hidden sponsorships

Any paid or sponsored content is explicitly labelled as such. We do not publish covert promotions of any kind.

Honest assessments

You have the right to expect that our reviews reflect genuine research, not the size of a commission cheque.

Challenge our conclusions

If you disagree with a recommendation or have evidence we’ve missed, email us. We take corrections seriously.

Buy wherever you like

You’re never obligated to use our links. Buy from wherever offers the best price and service for you.

Privacy protection

We don’t sell your data. Affiliate click tracking is handled by the retailers, not by us. See our Privacy Policy.

8 FTC compliance statement

The United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that websites disclose material connections between publishers and the brands or products they endorse. This page — and the inline disclosures on individual posts — fulfil that requirement. Similar disclosure obligations exist under UK ASA guidelines, EU consumer protection law, and other jurisdictions.

Official disclosure statement

PedalPickr.com is a participant in affiliate advertising programmes designed to provide a means for websites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to third-party retailers. We may earn a commission on qualifying purchases made through links on this site. This does not affect the purchase price you pay, and it does not affect our editorial independence. Our recommendations reflect genuine research and honest assessments, not commercial incentives.

In accordance with the FTC’s Guides Concerning Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255), this disclosure is:

  • Clear and conspicuous — displayed prominently on this dedicated page and noted inline on relevant articles.
  • Close to the recommendation — affiliate links on individual articles are accompanied by a short disclosure note near the link or at the top of the article.
  • Understandable — written in plain language that makes the commercial relationship obvious to an ordinary reader.

9 Amazon Associates notice

Required Amazon Statement: “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.” PedalPickr.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

When you click an Amazon link on PedalPickr.com, Amazon places a tracking cookie on your browser. This cookie records that you arrived at Amazon via our site. If you complete a qualifying purchase within 24 hours (or if the item is added to your cart within 24 hours and purchased within 90 days), we receive a commission at no additional cost to you.

Amazon’s tracking and data practices are governed entirely by Amazon’s own Privacy Notice, available at amazon.com/privacy. We do not receive access to your Amazon account, your purchase history, or any personally identifiable information as part of this arrangement. We see only aggregated reporting data (total clicks, order count, commission earned) within the Amazon Associates dashboard.

In accordance with Amazon’s Associates Program Operating Agreement (Section 12), Amazon may monitor, record, use, and disclose information about visits to and purchases from Amazon’s site made through Special Links from PedalPickr.com. This is disclosed here and in our Privacy Policy.
